It has been a while since the last time I saw a reliable report that would describe more in detail which are the top 10 ceramic tile manufacturing countries.
I going to make a list here that may not be in the exact order but I guess it would be close and I will add some details about each country. When I get the report in the next few weeks I will write a new article with the exact numbers.
1、CHINA. By far the largest manufacturer. The size of the next 10 countries combined! With a very large domestic consumption. Some of the most popular products are large sizes 600x600mm and 800x800mm in polished finished.
2、BRAZIL. The new world big size manufacturer and number 2. A emerging country with huge domestic demand and future holder of the world cup and olympic games. A lot of their production is for domestic market. A good amount is in red body. Only a few top brands can make large sizes, full polished and porcelain tile.
3、INDIA. The next world big size manufacturer with an emerging huge size potential economy. With the second largest population in the world and a lot of new construction going on, for sure has a high demand of tile. The world top tile and raw materials manufacturers are looking at this country under the microscope.
4、ITALY. This country at one point in time was number two on the list but has dropped to number 3 or four maybe even 5. For sure their total output compared to 4 years ago has been reduced at least half. Still Italy is the top quality and innovative country and could be number one or two in total sales. Most of their production is exported.
5、TURKEY. In the past few years this country has added a lot of capacity to cope with the high domestic demand. A country that wants to become part of the European community but has to do some upgrading to their infrastructure.
6、INDONESIA. The fourth largest population of the planet needs to have a decent infrastructure and demand for ceramic tile. Has some of the top 10 manufacturing plants in the world in total capacity.
7、SPAIN. One of the countries if not the top country affected by the world recession. They used to be number 3 in the world and now have dropped to number 7 or even 8 or 9. They also used to be the top wall tile manufacturer in the world (except China in quantity). Their total capacity has been reduced in more than 50% maybe is at 60% less than they used to be.
8、MEXICO. The economy in Mexico has been pretty stable and this country has not been as affected by the world recession as others. With USA as a neighbor and with a high per capita tile domestic consumption has been consistently growing its capacity. Still has at least been manufacturing 50% of the installed capacity in red body ceramics.
9、THAILAND. They have the top manufacturing tile group in Siam Cement Group making almost 130 million square meters per year.
10、UNITED ARAB EMIRATES. With the big petro dollars and economy of the Middle East and booming cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi this part of the world has a very high demand for construction materials. They have the world’s number 2 largest manufacturer plants of ceramic tile in R.A.K. Ceramics. This is one of China’s main export destinations for ceramic tile.
